You can use the intercalate and calculate trend features to produce estimated meter values for metering points that are missing required readings. As part of its energy management workflow, your organization should complete both the available intercalate readings and calculate trend readings regularly.
You can access the Intercalate page by clicking the Intercalate button under Operational Procedures on the VertiGIS FM Energy start page.

Intercalated meter readings are calculated using meter reading data available before and after the date of the missing reading. To see the available intercalate readings, ensure Intercalate Readings is selected under Options.
Intercalate Readings Option
The Intercalate Readings section lists all the available intercalate readings based on the filter criteria applied. This is a list of meters that are missing required meter readings based on Reading Interval property of the metering points to which they are assigned.
Intercalate Readings Section
The Meter Reading Date column indicates the date for which a meter reading value is missing. In the example shown above, the metering point has a Reading Interval of Monthly, and the meter (01-RM) has no reading for March 1, 2024.

The value that will be applied as a meter reading if you apply the intercalate reading is shown in the Standard Tariff column of the Intercalate Readings table.
Meter Value for Intercalated Reading
To apply an intercalate reading shown in the Intercalate Readings section, select the check box in the leftmost column and click Save or Save and Close.
Applying an Intercalate Reading
The Meter Readings section of the meter details page now shows a meter reading for March 1, 2024. The Reading Type column indicates Interpolated, which means the reading value was intercalated, not recorded directly from the meter.
Intercalated Meter Reading Value
VertiGIS FM can apply intercalate meter readings automatically if you set the Automatic Interpolation for Recording Meter Readings to Active in the product settings for VertiGIS FM Energy.
You may need to filter the intercalate readings available in the Intercalate Readings section. The criteria below are available to filter.
Intercalate Reading Filters

Energy Form |
Show all available intercalate meter readings for all meters with a given Energy Form property. Selectable options are stored in the Energy Form catalog. |
Year |
Show all available intercalate meter readings for all meters for any given year. You may need to combine this filter with others. |
Available intercalate readings can only be shown for one year at a time.
The calculate trend feature is similar to the intercalate feature but differs based on the reading data available for the meter. The intercalate feature can be used when meter readings are available before and after the date for which a required reading is missing. The calculate trend feature is used when the meter has no readings recorded after the date for which the required reading is missing. The value of an intercalate reading is generated based on the values of readings available before and after the date of the required reading, and a calculate trend reading is an estimation of a future value after the most recent reading when no data is available for intercalation.
You can access the available calculate trend readings by selecting Calculate Trend from the Options menu on the Intercalate page.
Calculate Trend Option on Intercalate Page
The Calculate Trend section lists all the available calculated values based on the filter criteria applied. In the example below, two meters have calculate trend readings for March 1, 2024.
Meters with Calculate Trends
VertiGIS FM only generates calculate trend meter values for meters assigned to metering points associated with a real estate. To associate the metering point with a real estate, select a building asset in the Assignment/Location field in the metering point details.
Both meters are assigned to metering points with a Reading Interval property of Monthly. For both meters, the date of the first missing required reading (3/1/2024) is after the last date for which a meter reading was recorded.

The Meter Readings section can be found on the details page for the meter.
You can apply the values shown in the Standard Tariff column as readings for the meter by selecting the checkboxes in the leftmost column of the Calculate Trend table and clicking Save or Save and Close.
Applying Calculate Trend Values
These values are now applied to the respective meters as meter readings for March 1, 2024. Because the values were generated using the calculate trend feature, the Reading Type column in the Meter Readings section indicate Trend.

The required readings for a meter are based on the metering point's Reading Interval property, which is found is the metering point details.
Metering Point Reading Interval
VertiGIS FM creates an intercalate value for a metering point if the meter assigned to it is missing any of its required readings for the time at which the meter was assigned.

VertiGIS FM does not generate any intercalate reading values for a metering point that has no Reading Interval selection.
For example, if a metering point had a Reading Interval of Monthly, and for 2023, the meter assigned to it had readings on the 1st date of every month except for April 1, VertiGIS FM would generate an intercalate reading for April 1.
