A subnetwork is a connected subset of a utility network whose features are connected to the same subnetwork controller(s). Subnetworks are used to organize and manage parts of a network, such as electrical circuits, pressure zones, or other operational areas.
Subnetworks are updated to ensure that attributes, network features, and connectivity in a network are current and valid. Updating a subnetwork also exposes any errors and inconsistencies, such as invalid features, disconnected or inconsistent subnetworks, incorrect numbers of subnetwork controllers, or dirty areas that have not yet been validated.
When you update a subnetwork, information in the table of subnetworks and attributes for features and objects are updated in the SubnetLine feature class.
To create a subnetwork:
1.Go to the Network > Subnetworks.
The Subnetworks panel opens with the all the subnetworks available in your utility network listed.
2.Click Modify Subnetwork Controller.
The modification panel opens.
3.Click Select to select a subnetwork controller from the map to activate.
The following information about the device or junction is shown in the panel.

Select to start a trace operation for the subnetwork after saving changes. |

Select to directly update the subnetwork after saving changes. |
The fields marked with an asterisk (*) are required, while the ones without are optional.
4.Click Enable to create the subnetwork and its defined subnetwork controller.
Your subnetwork is created.
5.Click Close to return to the Subnetworks panel.
Your subnetwork is created and has one of the following symbols placed next to its name in the list.
