If your asset management needs include the use of forms and fields not available in VertiGIS FM, you can create them using Additional Properties, Property Categories, or Characteristic Values (collectively called flexible properties). The three features are similar but vary in terms of how and where data is stored on the details page for the object or asset.
You can create flexible properties for any object associated with any VertiGIS FM product. In VertiGIS FM Maintenance, you can create additional properties, property categories, and characteristic values to capture data related to devices and components. In VertiGIS FM Buildings, you can create the same custom sections to capture data for assets like rooms, floors, and building constructions.
For assets associated with most VertiGIS FM products, additional properties, property categories, and characteristic values are created under Administration, on the Administration > Master Data > Flexible Properties page.
The difference between Additional Properties, Property Categories, and Characteristic Values are outlined below.
Types of Flexible Properties in VertiGIS FM
Feature |
Function |
---|---|
Additional Properties |
Enter and store data in custom fields of any data type in the Additional Properties section on an a details page. |
Property Categories |
Enter and store data in custom fields of any data type in a section with a custom name on a details page. |
Characteristic Values |
Enter and store multiple values in custom fields continually on an ongoing basis on a details page. With Additional Properties and Property Categories, custom fields can only store one value at a time. |
With VertiGIS FM Buildings, you can create custom additional properties, property categories, and characteristic values for rooms and use them to create custom floor plan evaluations.
You can also create custom fields from which the user selects a contact, company, or employee in the VertiGIS FM database using Contact Types and Contact Assignments. This field will be stored in the Contact Assignments section on the details page for the object to which you assign the contact type.
