What Is the Networks Explorer?

Prev Top Next More

Networks Explorer is a web-based solution for viewing, querying, and tracing network data on the ArcGIS Utility Network.

Networks Explorer is organized around read-only access, use it to find assets, inspect connectivity, and run traces without modifying the underlying network data.

Who Uses VertiGIS Networks Explorer?

Operations Managers: To check network statuses and execute trace operations.

Customer Service: To view live fault statuses and handle outages effectively.

Field Crews: To look up asset information and connectivity on-site without needing edit access.

Main features of Networks Explorer

Query and inspect assets

Select a feature to view its attribute information, such as type, status, installation date, and associated records. You can inspect feature details without modifying the network data. This is especially useful for quick lookups in the field, during a review, or when responding to a customer inquiry.

Search

Search for assets by ID, address, or attribute value across the network. You can locate assets without manually navigating the map.

View associations

Some network relationships are not visible on the map. Networks Explorer displays non-spatial associations and co-located connections so you can inspect connectivity that is not represented by feature geometry.

Trace operations

Run upstream and downstream traces from a selected point in the network. You can use trace results to identify connected assets, affected customers, or assets upstream or downstream of a device.

Subnetworks

View the areas of the network supplied by the same network controller. You can inspect subnetwork areas and understand how connected features relate to a controller.

Additional tools

Use additional tools to measure distances and areas, print maps, export data to Excel or shapefile, and share maps by link.

You can use these functions to validate network data quality after data transfer or ETL processes. You can also use them to transfer existing data, such as geometric network data, to Esri’s Utility Network and the corresponding VertiGIS network data models.
