To add a Database connection:

If no database connection has been configured yet, you can create a new database connection for the ArcSDE in ArcCatalog, with a user who has the UT_EDIT role.

1.Open ArcCatalog using a user profile with an UT_EDIT role.

2.Navigate to Database Connections > Add  Database Connection.
