Analyzing Networks

Prev Top Next More

The central function of the Network Explorer is the thematic and topological analysis of networks by means of network tracing.

Predefined network tracing configurations, which contain the necessary options and parameters, facilitate targeted analysis.

Procedure

VN_Bt_Trace Trace

1.Call function
The function can be activated from the Home tab or the Toolbar. In the left side panel, the Trace tab opens.

2.Set starting points
Click on the symbol VNEX_Bt_SetStartPoint to place a starting point on the map.

Starting points are shown with a green icon on the map.
Any number of starting points can be set.
Individual or all starting points can be removed again.

3.Set barriers
Click on the symbol VNEX_Bt_SetStartPoint to place a barrier on the map.

Barriers are shown with a red cross on the map.
Any number of barriers can be set.
Individual or all barriers can be removed again

4.optional: Select network trace type
The following network trace options are available:

Network trace type

VN_Bt_FindConnected

Connected

Check connectivity of the assets.

VN_Bt_FindUpstream

Upstream

Trace upstream to find path to feeder/source.

VN_Bt_FindDownstream

Downstream

Trace downstream to find out who/what is connected to it.

VN_Bt_FindIsolation

Isolation

Isolation Trace to identify the impact of a leak.

VN_Bt_FindShortestPath

Shortest Path

Find shortest path between two points on the network.

VN_Bt_FindSubnetwork

Subnetwork

Find all elements participating in a subnetwork.

By clicking on a network trace type it is possible to filter the preconfigured trace configurations by this type.

5.Select trace configuration
There can be trace configurations provided by the administrator for each network trace type. It is possible to search for trace configurations. They can be sorted alphabetically and a detailed description can be displayed.

For configuration examples of net trace types, see chapter Network Trace.

6.Start network trace
To start network tracing, a trace configuration must be selected with the mouse.

Alternatively, the mouse pointer can be placed in the Filter field. This automatically sets the first trace configuration to active and marks it with a green frame. The arrow keys can be used to conveniently select other trace configurations above or below and set them active. Press Enter to start network tracing with the selected trace configuration.

The result is centered on the map and the associated object information is shown as a table.

For a space-saving view, the compact view can be selected in the "Status bar" section.
