Introduction

In the past, almost all projects used only one attribute for the switch position. Thus, the same states as in the physical network could be mapped. Various issues then led to extensions. In addition to the network calculations, a few customers also wanted to know where in the network modifications take place, and thus not the switching states for the operating condition were present (eliminating affected areas). For these reasons, these considerations were inserted directly into the models for the Utility Network. In the implementation, two attributes were inserted for the switching status, which refer to the current and the normal state. The table (see below) explains the considerations and provides a more detailed explanation on various points.

Principle

The explanations are always to be understood in the context of the LifeCycle. The following principles apply to the entire subject area (including the lifecycle over the planning, operating and decommissioning phases).

All objects are switched on (Default = On), Off is the exception.

Switching states have only objects in the phase of operation.

Objects that are not in the operating phase have the value Off and thus form a barrier until they are also physically disconnected from the network.

The status Unknown is considered to be switched on (worst case scenario and is only used in the data transfer).

The field NormalPosition documents the desired switching status of the network. This may differ from the current one (modification, leakage, etc.)

Network fields NET_

Use case

CurrentPosition

NormalPosition

Intended use

Shows the current switching status of the object in the network.

Indicates the nominal switching position. This corresponds to the desired status in the network, which is Normal.

Utility Network

Used for subnetwork formation.

Can be used for network tracing. It should be noted that in this case the result does not seem plausible for a user.

Network Tracing

Is the default field to use for all network queries.

Legend/Map Display

Principle

This field is to be used primarily for the representation of the switching status, since the network is in this condition.

Alternative

Alternatively, both fields can be combined (different values). This then serves the purpose of showing where the network does not correspond to the intended normal state. This information can also be used for dashboards or aggregation to entire structures (assemblies). The representations in the map can be very individual and range from a label to an icon representation.

Default value

On

Data transfer

Is transferred 1:1 and must be fully maintained (On/Off)

Must be defined if the information is to be used. In a first phase also the values of CurrentPosition can be taken over.
