The tier definitions are applied to the served area. Additionally, a distinction is made between whether it is a transmission or distribution network. A transmission network typically consists of long, high-level pipelines that transport water from one point (source) to a transfer structure. It is important to note that these may also be so-called gravity-fed pipelines.
The functional distinction of the water pipelines is ensured through an additional attribute, AssetEntity. Further information on the function of the water pipeline can be found.

Description |
|---|---|---|
WAT_Transmission |
WAT_TransmissionSystemZone |
The transmission network is typically under pressure. In some cases, it may also consist of gravity-fed pipelines. The area corresponds to the part of the network served by the same water sources and production facilities. |
WAT_Transmission |
WAT_TransmissionPressureZone |
The transmission network is typically under pressure. In some cases, it may also consist of gravity-fed pipelines. |
WAT_Distribution |
WAT_DistributionSystemZone |
Distribution network, typically located in residential areas and divided into pressure zones. |
WAT_Distribution |

A District Metering Area (DMA) is a hydraulically discrete area within a zone of the distribution network.
It is used for monitoring system flow and pressure. It is also employed for prioritizing leakage control activities. |
