Depending on the application, other or additional steps, or a different sequence of steps, may be required for the project setup.

The following description is used to create a new empty project in which data can be newly entered.

The steps for other use cases (such as checking the data quality after a transfer, the data transfer itself, etc.) will be described later.

Preparation

1.The spatial reference must be correctly defined in advance.
(Change Asset Package Spatial Reference). The result is an asset package with the correct coordinate system.

Esri provides a tutorial in English here: Change Asset Package Spatial Reference

2.The service territory must be collected in ArcGIS Pro (feature class ServiceTerritory).
The spatial extent must generously encompass the network and be in the same coordinate system as the asset package.

If the GlobalID of the utility network entry is not unique (consists of zeros and dashes), the geoprocessing tool Stage Utility Network cannot be executed. This means that the supply network dataset cannot be created. In this case, the value of the GlobalID must be regenerated (function in the table view, see https://support.esri.com/en/technical-article/000021135)

Setup

1.Create data connection
In ArcGIS Pro in the pane Catalog, right-click on Databases and use the command New Database Connection from the context menu.

2.Set up the schema for the Utility Network feature classes and tables with the command Stage Utility Network
It is important to choose the service territory feature class whose extent and coordinate system correspond to the network.

3.Setup domain network
Domain networks Water, Gas, Electricity and Structure network are combined in one asset package. The Apply Asset Package command can be used to select which domain networks are to be set up. Apply Asset Package is part of the geoprocessing tool Utility Network Package Tools. The command configures an input utility network using an asset package.

4.Enable Utility Network
With the command Enable Network Topology the Utility Network is activated so that the appropriate topology rules and checks can take effect during collection.

If an asset package is to be set up on a file geodatabase for testing purposes, steps 1 to 3 above can be carried out with the single command Asset Package to Geodatabase.

Esri provides several tutorials:
- Stage Utility Network
- Apply Asset Package
- Enable Network Topology

Map display

1.Adjust the coordinate system of the map

a.Open ArcGIS Pro project
Load a feature class from the new project / data connection into a new map.
This will take the coordinate system from this feature class as the coordinate system for the map.

b.Copy all layers from the supplied PublisherMap in the ArcGIS Pro APRX project (or from the Lyrx files of the PublisherMap) to the map

c.Change data source paths of layers to the new data source

d.In case of a multi-user application (sde), the map must be published as a service
Delete the first inserted layer and the default World Topographic Map and then publish the map as a map service.

2.Customize the coordinate system and data source path of the ConsumerMap
(Before it is used for data processing)

a.Create a new map in ArcGIS Pro
Load a feature class from the new project / data connection into a new map.
This will take the coordinate system from this feature class as the coordinate system for the map.

b.Copy all layers from the supplied ConsumerMap in the ArcGIS Pro APRX project (or from the Lyrx files of the ConsumerMap) to the map

c.Customize data source paths of the layers

i.FGDB
On the FGDB data source

ii.Multi-user Enterprise environment
On the previously published map service

d.First, remove the inserted layer

e.(Optional: customize symbology if necessary)

f.In case of a multi-user application (sde), the map must be published as a web map

g.Save project

Depending on the task, ArcGIS Pro must be restarted between geoprocessing actions.
