Inventory management assets are managed hierarchically, which means all items in the system must organized into multi-level structures.
The inventory management structure is used to manage individual non-maintenance assets located in your buildings in VertiGIS FM Buildings. Assets that require maintenance to be documented in VertiGIS FM should be added to the Device and Systems Structure in VertiGIS FM Maintenance.
The inventory management structure follows a hierarchical structure of groups > designations ("Names") > versions ("Types") > inventory items, or individual assets. Generally, assigning properties, characteristics, or measurements to a higher node means they are inherited by or made available to the assets below them in the hierarchy.
Refer to Device and Systems Structure, Component Structure, and Playground Management Structure for other examples of hierarchical structures used in VertiGIS FM.
Each hierarchy must have a group as its highest level, and a version as the lowest level to which you can directly add assets (i.e., items). Structures can also a designation below the group if assets within the group require an additional grouping node. If more than three levels are required to properly group and manage your organization's inventory, you can add a designation to another designation using an advanced configuration.
