Structure

Infrastructures are often protected from the weather by structures. As a rule, these are available in the basemaps of the survey. The exact purpose is often not directly recognizable.

Station / Installation

Production sites, substations, customs and measuring stations, waterworks, reservoirs, stations with transformers

Installations and stations can have different spatial extents.

Cabin / Cabinet

Cabins and cabinets serve to protect the elements from the weather. The prefabricated cabins are available in different designs, which can include pilot shafts or cable vaults. Cabinets are usually located in places protected from the weather, such as underpasses, tunnels or buildings.

Room

Technical room in a building.

Roofing

Roofing of an installation or infrastructure without side walls. Serves as protection against the weather (rain, snow and sunlight).

Manhole

Underground structure / manhole.

Route point / Branch

Base

Structure for mounting assets, usually represented by a concrete structure on the ground.

Platform

In this area, working levels on poles and support structures are meant. These are usually used for mounting transformers or communication units (e.g. telecommunication).

Splice housing, optical terminal

Location of an optical terminal where termination, splicing, and patching are possible. It is a type of splice enclosure where the cable enters, some pairs/strands are used for feeding, and some simply terminate and are available for devices that can be added to the network.  

The enclosure can be located in a cabinet, station, underground in a shaft, or attached to a pole.
